About Pip Hiles

Kiaora. Welcome. My name is Pip.

I live in the Tasman area with my husband, two boys and two dogs.

I am extremely privileged to have worked as a Registered Nurse in community palliative care for the last 20 years.

In November 2021, the End-of-Life Choice Act was passed into law in Aotearoa, making assisted dying legally available in New Zealand.

My nursing role in palliative care has led me to train as a death doula. The role of death doula is different to the role of Registered Nurse and does not involve administering medications.

A death doula provides support to a person (and their whanau) committed to ending their life through assisted dying. Before, during and post death.

Death is a part of life, which will happen to us all. A death doula provides emotional and practical support, a coordinator of care to ensure a peaceful death. Offering an oversight of care.

Please contact me if you would like any further information on the death doula service.
